Hope for Haiti Necklace
04.23
Actress Patricia Arquette and jewelry designer Satya Scainetti have come together to design this cute necklace, 100% of the profits for which go to Arquette’s charity, Give Love. Give Love provides sustainable housing, sanitation, and water filtration solutions to Haitians affected by the recent earthquake. If you never gave to the cause, this would be a great way to do so and get this meaningful necklace, too. Not only does your purchase go to a good cause, it may inspire others who see you wearing it, as well!

And they shall inherit the Earth…
04.22
so we might as well get these kids busy making it a better place. Today, Daily Candy shared four ideas for helping kids become more Earth aware (and not just repeating, “We don’t throw trash on the ground, sweetie” until your ears blow steam). Some of these ideas might require actually moving around and participating a bit, but #1 only involves ordering a book and then, presumably, reading it. You can do all that from the couch.

Welcome to The Inactive Activist
04.21
In true Emily fashion, I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while but did not actually decide to do anything about it… until today. In honor of Earth Day, I figured the least I could do was sit down at the laptop and start a new little blog. You’re welcome, Mother Earth.
The Inactive Activist somewhat stemmed from a gift theme where I spent one holiday season searching online for gifts that would give back in some way, either to charity or to a meaningful cause. It was harder than I thought to find one source for all these ideas. I decided I should start a blog where I could share ideas for giving back that could all be done without a lot of effort. That was two years ago. Alas, the Inactive Activist was born.
I’ll post anything I find that supports a cause I believe in, whether it’s clicking for free rice, watching a video to plant a tree, or shopping to support workers in developing nations. Check back when you can, and help me save the world… all from our nice, comfy couches.
