Today, you can help set the world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day in all parts of the world. Pledge to read “The Snowy Day” today and be counted toward the record. This campaign kicks off Jumpstart’s yearlong program, preparing preschool children in low-income neighborhoods for success in school and life. If you own the book, you can read your own copy, or go online to www.wegivebooks.org and read a free online copy. Then, once you’ve read the book (to your kids or just to be a kid again!), click here to be counted.

I couldn’t get on quickly enough after I heard about this deal. Children’s author Todd Parr has paired with Stouffer’s for this incredible, and EASY, opportunity for giving back. For every copy of Parr’s “Let’s Fix Dinner” sold through December 2011, FOUR DOLLARS will go to Habitat for Humanity! This is not a 2%, 5%, or 10% donation. This is a 50% donation from each purchase! Parr has pledged to raise at least $125,000 but will contribute up to $200,000, so click the book below and buy a book (or five) now! These would make great holiday gifts for the children in your lives, and would also provide a great teachable moment about having a roof over your head and a table to eat meals.  His work is filled with great drawings, bold colors, and above all, terrific messages for kids.

I already ordered two copies. Each book is $7.99 and the shipping was $2.99 (it didn’t change when I ordered an additional book, so that was nice).  This is an Inactive Activist win for sure!

so we might as well get these kids busy making it a better place.  Today, Daily Candy shared four ideas for helping kids become more Earth aware (and not just repeating, “We don’t throw trash on the ground, sweetie” until your ears blow steam).  Some of these ideas might require actually moving around and participating a bit, but #1 only involves ordering a book and then, presumably, reading it.  You can do all that from the couch.
